White Sox Injury Report: Updates Today On Tim Anderson, Yoán Moncada, Eloy Jiménez

The White Sox reinstated shortstop Tim Anderson from the 10-day IL on Monday but, as is tradition in Chicago this season, replaced him on the IL with third baseman Yoán Moncada.

Yoán Moncada Injury Update

The 27-year-old suffered a right hamstring strain on June 17 and the White Sox were hopeful after his MRI that Moncada would avoid the IL.

Moncada missed the first 27 games of the season with an oblique strain he suffered during Chicago's truncated spring training.

Luckily for the White Sox, rookie slugger Jake Burger and 28-year-old infielder Danny Mendick have filled in well for the cornucopia of injured players this season and will provide a suitable replacement for Moncada.

Moncada had easily his best game of the season on Wednesday with five hits, five RBI, and two extra-base knocks, nearly doubling his season RBI total from seven to 12.

Overall, he is batting .179 with a .523 OPS, three home runs, and eight runs in 113 at-bats this season.

Tim Anderson Injury Update

Anderson returned Monday from a right groin strain that kept him out for three weeks.

The all-star shortstop went 2-5 and scored one run, raising his batting average to .357, which would be second in MLB if he qualified (he is averaging less than 3.1 plate appearances per team game, which is the line to qualify).

His absence was shorter than predicted and the Docs will monitor how well he is able to move laterally on defense.

Eloy Jiménez Injury Update

Jiménez is expected to begin another AAA rehab assignment as a DH on Tuesday, resetting his 20-day ramp-up timetable before returning to the White Sox.

The leftfielder was shut down on June 9 after experiencing “normal” leg soreness for the second time while rehabbing a torn right hamstring tendon.

Before the setback Jiménez was expected to return to the major league club sometime between June 7 and 12, according to MLB.com's Julie Kreuz.

The ProBaseballDocs said they expected a three-month absence after Jimenez underwent an unusual surgery to repair the torn tendon on April 25. He now looks on track to meet that deadline and likely return around or after the all-star break.
