Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages is expected to miss at least four weeks with a fractured left hand after being hit by a pitch during Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pages underwent a minor procedure on the fifth metacarpal over the weekend. The injury interrupts an All-Star season in which he is hitting .272/.338/.458 with 21 home runs and 80 RBIs across 128 games.
How Did Andy Pages Fracture His Hand?
Pages was hit in the left hand by a 100.2 mph sinker from Pirates right-hander Bubba Chandler in the bottom of the third inning Friday.
He initially remained in the game and played another inning in center field before Kiké Hernández replaced him in the top of the fifth.
Further evaluation revealed the fracture, leading to the minor procedure over the weekend.
When Will Andy Pages Return?
Pages is expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks, leaving open the possibility of a return later this season.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism that Pages could return toward the earlier end of his recovery timeline.
"I would expect him back, knowing him, on the earlier side," Roberts said. "There's still time in the season for him to be back."
Roberts also acknowledged the difficult timing of the injury after Pages' strong season.
"I feel for him because he was having such a good year and he likes to play," Roberts said. "But yeah, we've got to move on and hold down the fort until he's back."
