The latest MLB injury report for Aug. 31 - Sep. 6, 2026, tracks key player injuries, injured-list moves, rehab assignments and return timelines across the league. This report will be updated throughout the week as teams announce new injuries, diagnoses and roster moves.
Wednesday, September 2nd
Adley Rutschman, Red Sox - Right Elbow
Rutschman missed his third consecutive game Wednesday due to a hyperextended right elbow. Interim manager Chad Tracy said Rutschman continues to improve and the team is hopeful he can return to the lineup Thursday against the Orioles.
Keibert Ruiz, Nationals - Head
Ruiz exited Wednesday’s game against the Braves after being struck in the facemask by a foul tip. He was evaluated by the Nationals’ medical staff, with no diagnosis or status update yet announced.
Joe Musgrove, Padres - Elbow
Musgrove’s return from Tommy John surgery has been delayed after he experienced lingering arm soreness following his latest rehab start. The Padres believe the soreness is part of the normal recovery process, but Musgrove needs to improve his recovery between outings before returning to the rotation.
Eric Lauer, Dodgers - Left Elbow
Lauer was placed on the injured list Wednesday with left elbow inflammation after allowing seven runs over three innings in Tuesday’s start against the Cardinals.
Tuesday, September 1st
Aaron Judge, Yankees - Rib
Judge traveled with the Yankees on their West Coast trip as he continues his recovery from a rib stress fracture. Manager Aaron Boone said Judge is “doing well” and that a return when the Yankees begin their next homestand on Sept. 8 is possible, though no official return date has been set.
CJ Abrams, Nationals - Lower Back
Abrams was scratched from Monday’s lineup against the Marlins due to lower back tightness. Manager Blake Butera said Abrams had difficulty with rotation while attempting to get ready for the game. He returned to the lineup on Tuesday.
Carlos Correa, Astros - Left Ankle
Correa has been cleared to intensify his rehab following May surgery to repair the peroneus brevis tendon in his left ankle. He is running at 95 percent intensity, fielding ground balls and hitting off a pitching machine, and will continue his rehab at the Astros’ Spring Training facility. A return during the final weeks of the regular season remains possible.
Luis Rengifo, Padres - Right Knee
Rengifo was diagnosed with a full ACL tear and an MCL sprain in his right knee after undergoing an MRI. He will undergo season-ending surgery and is expected to face a recovery timeline of around nine months.
Monday, August 31st
Byron Buxton, Twins - Right Hip
Buxton was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right hip impingement after the issue flared up again last week. This marks his third IL stint of the season due to right hip issues. The Twins have not set a return timetable but still hope he will play again this season.
George Lombard Jr., Yankees - Right Knee
Lombard is day-to-day after an MRI showed no structural damage in his right knee. He is dealing with inflammation and soreness around the patellar tendon and kneecap after feeling discomfort while checking his swing Saturday against the Red Sox.
Pete Alonso, Orioles - Head
Alonso exited Sunday’s game against the Athletics after being hit on the brim of his helmet by a 94.6 mph fastball. He was able to walk off under his own power, and manager Craig Albernaz said Alonso was doing fine afterward.
Elly De La Cruz, Reds - Left Quad
De La Cruz exited Sunday’s game against the Cubs with tightness in his left quadriceps, the same area that bothered him for much of the 2025 season. He will be evaluated Monday to determine the severity of the injury.
Will Smith, Dodgers - Neck
Smith is expected to be activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday after missing nearly three months with an inflamed disc in his neck. He completed a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City last week and is set to return to the Dodgers’ lineup.
