White Sox Injury Report: Updates On Tim Anderson, Lance Lynn, Michael Kopech & Yasmani Grandal

The preseason AL Central favorite White Sox continue to lose players to the injured list, but will also get one key piece back into the fold this week.

Tim Anderson Injury Update

Star shortstop Tim Anderson will begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A on Tuesday as he works his way back from a significant groin strain.

Anderson hasn't played since being carried off the field on May 29 but is progressing faster than the ProBaseballDocs expected, creating hope he could return without a trip to the 60-day IL as the Docs worried would happen.

Anderson is in a similar position in his recovery as outfielder Eloy Jimenez, who is also going working through a rehab assignment but has had to take multiple days off with what the team has called normal leg soreness.

Lance Lynn Injury Update

Veteran ace Lance Lynn is scheduled to make his first start of the season on Monday as he returns from offseason knee surgery.

The 35-year-old underwent surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right knee with a two-month rehab timeline and a projected June return.

The Docs give Lynn an SIC health score of 67 for the season as he will likely have to manage the knee for the rest of the season.

Lynn went 11-6 with a 2.69 ERA and .209 opponent batting average across 28 starts on the way to finishing third in AL Cy Young voting.

Yasmani Grandal Injury Update

While Lynn returns to the active roster, Grandal was placed on the 10-day IL with back spasms.

Chicago's veteran catcher suffered a hamstring strain on Saturday and wasn't expected to miss much time, but this appears to be a separate ailment.

Seby Zavala was called up from the minors and will likely serve as the reserve catcher while Reese McGuire – who has a higher OPS and WAR than Grandal this season – will step behind the plate.

Michael Kopech Injury Update

The most pressing matter for the struggling Sox is Kopech. The right-handed starter left Sunday's start with right knee discomfort after appearing to slip on his follow-through with two outs in the first inning.

An MRI showed no structural damage but Kopech had some fluid drained, according to Tony La Russa, and will likely continue to undergo treatment ahead of his next start, which is tentatively scheduled for next Sunday.

Tony La Russa says Michael Kopech had fluid drained from his knee. Kopech starting Sunday is still a possibility. If not, Lance Lynn could get the start vs. Houston.
