White Sox Injury Report: Michael Kopech Leaves Sunday Start With Right Knee Injury

The White Sox lost another key player to injury on Sunday when starter Michael Kopech slipped on his follow-through only 13 pitches into his start.

Michael Kopech Injury Update

Kopech was pulled with right knee discomfort, according to the White Sox, with a 3-2 count and two outs in the first inning.

The 26-year-old breakout starter was fiddling with the mound throughout the inning as he struggled to find his footing on the rubber and a solid landing place at the bottom of the hill.

Kopech was unable to finish a warmup pitch and immediately walked off in frustration.

He has been far-and-away Chicago's best starter this season as Lance Lynn and Lucas Giolito have each missed time with injuries.

Kopech has a 1.94 ERA and 0.941 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 51 innings and is sixth among all MLB pitchers with 2.4 WAR.

Yasmani Grandal Injury Update

The day before Kopech's injury, White Sox catcher and DH Yasmani Grandal suffered a left hamstring strain.

Grandal is out of the lineup on Sunday but isn't expected to go to the IL, according to Tony La Russa.

He will likely be out for a few days to undergo treatment, but it doesn't appear to be as serious as the soft-tissue injuries to Eloy Jimenez and Tim Anderson.
