Tyler Lockett Injury: Seattle WR Suffers Broken Hand in Loss to 49ers

Seattle Seahawks wideout Tyler Lockett suffered a broken bone in his hand late in the fourth quarter against the 49ers and will likely miss multiple weeks.

Lockett reportedly suffered a spiral crack in his first metacarpal, which can typically be fixed by surgery to insert a plate and screws to stabilize the fracture, according to the Pro Football Docs. With that surgery he could be back in three weeks to face the Rams in Week 18.

The break is technically just below his index finger, which is slightly better than a broken index finger. Still, a return in two weeks is optimistic and three weeks is more realistic.

By video, Lockett appeared to suffer the injury on an incompletion with under four minutes remaining in the game.

Lockett was landed on by two defenders with his right hand underneath him, but did not appear to be in pain immediately after.

He left to the locker room and did not return.

After the game, Lockett told Pete Carroll he hopes to be back in two weeks for a matchup against the Jets. That may be a week too optimistic, according to the Pro Football Docs.

The Pro Bowl wideout has missed just one regular season game in his 8-year career.

Carroll compared the injury to Rashaad Penny's broken finger on Aug. 14, 2018. In that case, Penny was able to return for the season opener on Sept. 9, roughly three weeks later.

There's hope Lockett can return just as quick, granted the Seahawks are still in Wild Card contention by then.

Lockett had 7 catches for 68 yards on 9 targets against the 49ers.

He's up to 78 catches for 964 yards and 8 touchdowns this season.

Seattle will likely rely on Marquise Goodwin and Dee Eskridge to replace Lockett's production.
