Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley left Sunday’s game at Buffalo with a toe injury after replacing Lamar Jackson, who exited early with a right hand injury. The loss of both quarterbacks in the same game leaves Baltimore in an emergency situation at the most important position. The Ravens are down to their third string quarterback Joe Fagnano a rookie quarterback out of UConn.
Huntley had been Baltimore’s starter during Jackson’s three-game absence with a high left ankle sprain, going 1-2 while throwing for 201 yards and two touchdowns in a Week 5 win over the Falcons. Jackson returned today, only to leave on the Ravens’ first offensive play after his hand hit the arm of Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau, and Huntley took over from there. A toe injury can range from a minor sprain or jam to a more significant turf toe injury, which affects a quarterback’s ability to push off when throwing and scrambling, and the severity is often unclear until imaging.
No foot or toe injury appears in Huntley’s documented record, which makes this a new issue. His history is mostly upper body and head. He exited a September 2024 game against the Colts with the Dolphins in the third quarter with a right shoulder injury, hurt his right shoulder again during the 2022 season, and was in concussion protocol that December before returning, and he was activated from the COVID list in December 2021. He also had a minor hamstring injury in a preseason game. At Utah, he missed a handful of games with injuries, and the Ravens have relied on him as the primary backup since re-signing him this offseason.
Baltimore, 4-3 entering the day, plays again Thursday night, November 5, at home against the Jaguars, a short week that leaves almost no time to recover for either quarterback. The key updates are the Ravens’ statements on both players, whether X-rays or an MRI are ordered, and who is under center for the Jaguars game.
