Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell remains hospitalized after suffering a neck injury early in the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Details surrounding the injury and Campbell's condition remain limited, although Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided an encouraging update Tuesday morning.

"The good news is he is improving," Dan Campbell said during an appearance on 97.1 The Fan.

Pro Football Doc Analysis: Jack Campbell's Neck Injury

According to Pro Football Doc Dr. David Chao, the circumstances surrounding Campbell's injury and continued hospitalization are unusual, even for a serious NFL injury.

Based on the injury video, Dr. Chao said the mechanism did not appear consistent with an injury that would typically cause paralysis.

"This is not the norm," Dr. Chao said. "However, there's clearly some more than typical."

Dr. Chao contrasted Campbell's situation with another recent NFL neck injury in which a player was immobilized and transported from the field but returned to the locker room that same day and played the following week.

He also pointed to the lack of specific medical updates, including whether Campbell has normal movement and function in his extremities, as a reason for continued concern.

"I don't see it as paralysis. I hope to be correct on that," Dr. Chao said.

While emphasizing his hope for a positive outcome, Dr. Chao cautioned against assuming the situation is routine simply because the initial injury video did not appear particularly severe.

"Good news comes fast. Bad news comes slowly," he said.

Campbell's exact diagnosis and potential recovery timeline remain unknown.
