The Baltimore Ravens are dealing with injuries to all three quarterbacks following Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills, leaving the team's quarterback situation uncertain ahead of Thursday Night Football against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Lamar Jackson is headed to injured reserve following a right thumb injury that requires surgery, while backup Tyler Huntley suffered a turf toe injury. Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, who made his NFL debut against Buffalo, is also dealing with an ankle injury.
Lamar Jackson's Thumb Injury Could End His Season
Jackson injured his right thumb on his first throw against the Bills and is set to undergo surgery.
Head coach Jesse Minter said the injury could "potentially" end Jackson's season, although a return has not been ruled out.
Tyler Huntley's Turf Toe Injury
Huntley suffered a turf toe injury in the second quarter against Buffalo, forcing Fagnano into action.
The rookie completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards with an interception in his NFL debut.
Fagnano was limited during Monday's walkthrough because of an ankle injury, but Minter said he expects the quarterback "to have a chance to play on Thursday."
Pro Football Doc Analysis: Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley Injuries
According to Pro Football Doc Dr. David Chao, Lamar Jackson's right thumb injury is expected to sideline him for a minimum of six weeks, with recovery potentially extending to eight to 10 weeks following surgery.
That timeline would push Jackson's earliest potential return into December, raising questions about whether the Ravens would bring him back depending on their position in the standings.
"Is there a chance that Lamar can return? Yes. But where will the Ravens be by that point in time? And is there any point in rushing him?" Dr. Chao said.
Dr. Chao also expressed concern about Tyler Huntley's turf toe injury, particularly because it involves his right foot, which he uses to push off when throwing.
Although the severity has not been confirmed, Dr. Chao believes the injury could be significant enough to require a stint on injured reserve.
"It wouldn't be a shock if he went on injured reserve with his turf toe," Dr. Chao said.
With Jackson headed to IR and Huntley facing a potentially extended absence, Dr. Chao believes Baltimore will need to add quarterback depth, especially with rookie Joe Fagnano also dealing with an ankle injury.
