Updated 8pm PT Sept 29. Rice is feared to have torn his ACL according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Rice will have an MRI on his knee Monday to confirm the injury. If it is indeed an ACL tear, his season will be over.
The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver suffered a right quad contusion and hyperextended knee on the same play after colliding with Patrick Mahomes following an interception. While the quad injury is manageable, the knee issue is more concerning. The hyperextension caused a bone bruise and resulted in a sprain to the posterior lateral corner of the knee. Due to the severity of the knee injury, he was sidelined for the remainder of the game.
This knee sprain will likely keep the wideout out for an extended period, a significant setback for the Chiefs' offense. With his absence, the team loses a key target in their passing attack, further complicating an already injury-riddled roster. Hollywood Brown, one of the team's top receivers, is already on injured reserve after undergoing surgery for an SC joint injury. The Chiefs' receiving corps is now thin, amplifying the impact of this latest injury.
Compounding the Chiefs' offensive struggles is the loss of running back Isaiah Pacheco, who is also on injured reserve with a fibula injury. With both Pacheco and the wideout unavailable, the Chiefs' offense will face significant challenges in maintaining its efficiency and balance. The team will need to rely heavily on its remaining playmakers to compensate for these injuries as they navigate the remainder of the season.
