Padres Pitcher Joe Musgrove has been placed on the 15-day IL due to discomfort caused by triceps tendonitis in his right (throwing) arm.
The Padres insist that the move was precautionary. Manager Mike Shildt said, "There's some inflammation in there, so this is a chance for him to get a reset. We don't feel like it's overly serious."
“I tried to get through as long as I could,” he said. “And I just feel like I’m at the point where it seems like a 15-day stint will get me 100 percent back and feeling normal for the rest of the year, as compared to pushing through it and possibly pushing me out for more time. And I never liked going on the IL. I do everything I can to stay off it but it feels pretty necessary right now.”
Musgrove is 3-3 with a 6.37 ERA in eight starts this season. He has given up 10 homers in 41 innings.
The Padres hope Musgrove will be ready to start in the Padres’ series in Atlanta against the Braves that begins May 17.
