Miami Dolphins Dealing With Multiple Injuries at Cornerback

The Miami Dolphins have been known as a team with an elite secondary captained by All-Pro cornerback Xavien Howard. But, the Dolphins have faced many injuries to their defensive backfield this preseason.

Dolphins Injury Update

Byron Jones

Dolphins star cornerback Byron Jones had surgery in March to address the lingering issue in his left ankle. The injury was supposed to keep him out of training camp, but his recovery was slower than expected. His coach said, “he’s trying to get back for week one.” But, Jones is still on the active/PUP list and can’t practice until removed from it.

Nik Needham

Nik Needham was injured in the first quarter of the Dolphin’s second preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. After making a tackle, he rolled over and grabbed his hand. However, head coach Mike McDaniel recently said Needham is “good to go.”

Trill Williams

During the team’s first preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Trill Williams got carted off the field. The ACL injury occurred in the fourth quarter after jumping a screen pass. Williams has been put on injured reserve and will miss the entire 2022 season.

Mackensie Alexander

The Dolphins decided to sign veteran cornerback Mackensie Alexander to help with the depth in their defense. After eight days of being on the team, The Dolphins put Alexander on injured reserve after suffering a groin injury that could keep him out the entire season.

The dolphins could start the season down three corners that they expected to contribute early in the season. Look for Mac Jones to test the injured Dolphins secondary in Week 1.
