Irv Smith Jr. Injury: Here's How Long Minnesota TE is Likely Out With Ankle Sprain

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. has been diagnosed with a left high ankle sprain and will likely miss at least a week.

Based on limited video, Smith's ankle injury appears to be on the mild side of the high-ankle injury mechanism and the hope is he can return in two to four weeks.

By video, Smith suffered the injury while pass blocking on a 5-yard touchdown pass to K.J. Osborn in the fourth quarter of the 34-26 win over the Cardinals.

Smith had his left leg rolled up on and did not return to the game.

He will definitely miss next week's matchup against the Commanders, but has a slight chance to be back for the Week 10 matchup against the Bills.

Johnny Mundt, who caught his first career touchdown this week against Arizona, will get the tight end work with Smith out.

Smith has 22 catches for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns this season. He missed time in training camp after undergoing thumb surgery in early August.

Vikings vs. Commanders Week 9 Odds

Minnesota has opened as 3.5-point favorites on the road against Washington and the over/under is 43.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
