The Los Angeles Dodgers placed shortstop Mookie Betts on the injured list Sunday with a right oblique strain after he exited Saturday’s 10-5 win over the Washington Nationals.

Betts left the game after walking and scoring in the first inning. Manager Dave Roberts said the Dodgers believe the injury occurred on a check swing during the at-bat.

Roberts said he hopes Betts’ recovery will be quicker than the typical four-to-six-week timeline often associated with oblique injuries.

The injury comes as Betts has gotten off to a slow start at the plate, hitting .179 with two home runs and seven RBIs through the Dodgers’ first eight games.

In a corresponding move, Los Angeles recalled Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
