Dodgers star Mookie Betts will miss the Tokyo Series against the Cubs due to an illness that has caused him to lose nearly 15 pounds, though it is not considered contagious. The team is considering sending him home early to aid his recovery, but he is expected to be ready for the Dodgers’ stateside opener on March 27 against the Tigers. Left the Sunday game versus the Kansas City Royals on June 17 due to a fracture in his left hand, Betts took a 98 mph pitch off his hand causing him to fall to the ground writhing in pain, our panel of Pro Baseball Docs agrees with the initial reports that he does not need surgery and that the injury is not season-ending, by video analysis we concur that no surgery is required but the issue lies with the fracture being on the bottom hand which is essential for generating power and contact off the bat, Betts will initially be placed on the 10-day IL but there is concern about a potential move to the 60-day IL, the expectation is that the outfielder will miss multiple months with a return late in the season to help the Dodgers gear up for a playoff push
