Byron Buxton Injury: Scuffling Twins Lose CF To Hip Strain

The Twins placed star centerfielder Byron Buxton on the IL on Tuesday after he suffered a mild right hip strain.

Byron Buxton Injury Update

Manager Rocco Baldelli said the oft-injured Buxton has played much of the season with a lingering right hip issue. The 28-year-old suffered a right hip injury during an at-bat on May 7 and sat out two games but hasn't missed time because of it since.

Buxton, who hasn't played 100 games in a season since 2017, missed 39 games over six weeks in May to June 2021 with a right hip strain as well.

The first-time all-star has put together his best all-around offensive season – notching a career-high 28 home runs with 51 RBI and an .833 OPS – while managing not only the hip injury but chronic right knee tendonitis that has kept him out of five of Minnesota's last 15 games.

Twins World Series Odds

Buxton is the latest in a bundle of key Twins to miss significant time with injuries this season, joining first baseman Miguel Sano (meniscus), Chris Paddack and Kenta Maeda (Tommy John surgery), Royce Lewis (ACL), and Alex Kirilloff (ulna-shortening surgery).

Minnesota held onto the top spot in the AL Central for much of the season but has dropped to 2.5 games behind the Guardians.

FanDuel Sportsbook has the Twins at +3000 to win the AL and +7500 to win the World Series behind the Guardians and White Sox in both futures.

Checked with someone who would know on Buxton. Question: "MRI check out ok?" Answer: "Yea." TBD how long hip issue keeps him out. But considering he's played through a lot this year, hopefully not long. #MNTwins
