Twins Injury Report: Byron Buxton Leaves Game With Hip Tightness

Star centerfielder Byron Buxton was pulled from Saturday's 1-0 win in the eighth inning with right hip tightness.

Byron Buxton Injury Update

The oft-injured 28-year-old potentially suffered the injury in his first at-bat, according to manager Jayce Tingler, and it continued to tighten as the game went on.

He went 0-3 but reached in the first on a passed ball strikeout after swinging out of his shoes and racing out of the box to beat the throw from Christian Bethancourt.

Twenty-three-year-old outfielder Gilberto Celestino replaced Buxton in the leadoff spot and on defense.

Buxton missed five games with right knee soreness stemming from an awkward slide on April 15.

The former No. 2 overall pick is hitting .278 with a 1.064 OPS, nine home runs, 17 runs, 17 RBI, and 26 strikeouts.

He has not played in more than 87 games in a season since 2017 with a variety of issues but has never missed time with a hip injury.
