7 Biggest MLB Insights This Week

Corbin Carroll - SIC score 86

Close to a return from his right shoulder soreness, according to the Pro Baseball Docs. Carroll suffered the injury on a swing last Thursday but the issue is not serious.

He had right shoulder surgery two years ago, but this issue, by video, is unrelated.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - SIC score 48

The speedy center fielder suffered a left oblique injury on Sunday and will likely miss extended time. Our panel of doctors assert he will require at least a 10-day IL stint.

Oblique injuries linger and the Marlins have no reason to rush him back with the All-Star break around the corner.

Jeremy Peña - SIC score 79

His sore neck is a concern going forward as it’s an injury that cannot be played through easily. If it’s a muscle issue it should resolve shortly. Possible that the team chooses to rest him through the All-Star break.

Julio Urias - SIC score 89

Had a less than stellar return from a hamstring injury that had kept him out since mid-May. Will build up his arm with each outing but hamstring injuries have a slight chance of recurrence.

Next start is scheduled for Thursday against the Pirates.

Masataka Yoshida - SIC score 87

X-rays came back negative after he took a fastball off his shin during Saturday’s game. The Pro Baseball Docs do not believe he will require an IL stint for his sore shin.

Brandon Drury - SIC score 53

Placed on 10-day IL with a left shoulder contusion but should be ready just after the All-Star break, according to the Pro Baseball Docs. Has taken an increased role on the Angels with Gio Urshela done for the season with a fractured pelvis.

Michael Kopech - SIC score 31

The White Sox starter was placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation and won’t be eligible to return until after the All-Star break.

Our panel of doctors cannot be optimistic about his return until the team identifies the cause of his inflammation. Shoulder issues can easily lead to extended missed time, especially for a flamethrower like Kopech.
