Phillies Injury Report: Jean Segura Out 10-12 Weeks, Bryce Harper Sits With Forearm Soreness

The Phillies ended a tumultuous series against the Giants with two major blows to their lineup, as news regarding Jean Segura and Bryce Harper provided a slap to the face of Phillies fans.

Jean Segura Injury Update

Segura suffered a displaced right index finger fracture – meaning it was broken in two locations and more difficult to fit back together – on a failed bunt attempt in the seventh inning.

Joe Girardi told reporters that Segura will need 10-12 weeks to recover after undergoing surgery. The timeline would bring him back to the lineup at the end of August or beginning of September, just in time for a potential playoff chase.

The Phillies placed the 32-year-old second baseman on the 10-day IL, but he could be moved to the 60-day IL if Girardi's proposed timeline is followed.

Segura attempted to bunt on two consecutive pitches and on the second his finger, which was wrapped around the barrel, took the full brunt of the pitch. He immediately walked out of the batter's box and into the dugout.

The two-time all-star is batting .275 with six home runs, 19 RBI, 22 runs, and eight stolen bases.

Phillies' brass will reportedly look to the trade market for a full-time replacement, but in the short-term, a combination of Johan Camargo and Byrson Scott will take Segura's place.

Bryce Harper Injury Update

Harper was scratched from the lineup of Wednesday's series finale with right forearm soreness and is reportedly going to receive additional treatment on his ailing right elbow later this week.

That may entail another PRP injection to promote healing and reduce swelling. He has he has received a PRP once before, on May 15, keeping him out nearly a week.

Harper hasn't played in the field since suffering a torn UCL in early April, but has continued to play everyday DH, batting .303 with a .943 OPS, 10 home runs, 34 runs, and 32 RBI.
