White Sox Injury Report: Danny Mendick Suffers Knee Injury, Two Outfielders Leave With Leg Tightness Wednesday

The White Sox are awaiting results of an MRI on the right knee of infielder Danny Mendick after he went down after a collision early in Wednesday's game.

Danny Mendick Injury Update

Mendick suffered the apparent right knee injury in the top of the second inning while chasing after a ball in foul territory, as you can see in the video pulled from NBC Sports Chicago below.

The 28-year-old banged knees with Adam Haseley and went careening into the dirt. Tony La Russa said after the game Mendick has a significant bruise on the injured knee.

He officially was helped off the field with right knee discomfort and is undergoing further tests, according to the White Sox Twitter account.

Mendick has been essential as a fill-in shortstop for Chicago this season, batting .281 with three home runs, four doubles, 22 runs, and 15 RBI in 105 at-bats this season.

His injury comes only two days after shortstop Tim Anderson returned from a groin strain-induced trip to the IL.

Luis Robert Injury Update

Tony La Russa removed star centerfielder Luis Robert in the top of the eighth with leg soreness but said after the game he expects Robert to be available on Thursday.

The 24-year-old appeared to pull up rounding first on an RBI single in the sixth inning which La Russa noted as abnormal. He played in the field in the seventh but was removed after the Blue Jays went up 9-1.

Robert missed six games in late April with a minor groin strain but avoided a trip to the IL.

Robert has continued to perform after a breakout 2021, batting .300 with seven home runs, 32 runs, and a team-high 36 RBI.

Adam Engel Injury Update

Rightfielder Adam Engel was pulled in the fourth inning with right hamstring soreness that La Russa noted is concerning.

He appeared to suffer the injury jumping out of the box on a deep foul ball early in his first at-bat and attempted to stretch out the hamstring after every swing.

He finished the at-bat but was replaced in the next inning.

Engel is one of the few White Sox players not to miss time this season while batting .240 with 13 extra-base hits, 19 runs, and nine stolen bases in 146 at-bats.

He has seen increased playing time in the absence of leftfielder Eloy Jimenez.

Robert was taken out with what La Russa termed as leg soreness. Said it was obvious something was bothering him with Robert not being able to get to second on that line drive to left. He's day to day but should be in the lineup vs. the Orioles
