Ty France Suffers Elbow Injury, Heading For MRI

Ty France suffered an apparent left elbow injury in the Mariners' 2-1 win over the A's on Thursday.

Ty France Injury Update

France had his left wrist and elbow bent backwards when Sheldon Neuse ran through his glove attempting to beat out the throw at first.

Despite the immediate concern for a wrist fracture or sprain the Pro Baseball Docs are more worried for a left elbow injury.

While the wrist bent back and was likely painful, there was no clear mechanism for a fracture or even structural damage.

Postgame X-rays came back negative, confirming this hopeful suspicion.

The hyperextension of the medial elbow, however, was reminiscent of the left elbow dislocation and UCL tear that Max Muncy suffered last October.

The Docs have hope is that there is no fracture or dislocation in either joint and that the injury wasn't as severe as Muncy's, which caused him to miss the Dodgers' postseason run.

It certainly helps that it is his left arm and not his dominant throwing or batting arm. If he did suffer a ligament tear, there's hope the injury would not be season-ending.

The 27-year-old France is batting .319 this season with an .873 OPS, 10 home runs, 14 doubles, and 45 RBI in 273 at-bats and is tied for 14th in MLB with 3.1 WAR.
