Philadelphia Phillies superstar shortstop Trea Turner is dealing with a significant hamstring injury, which is suspected to be at least a Grade 2 according to our panel of Pro Baseball Docs.
This type of injury is particularly concerning for a player like Turner, who relies heavily on his speed. The Phillies could potentially be considering placing him on the 60-day injured list after an initial 10-day IL placement.
Turner likely will be sidelined until close to the All-Star break which begins July 16. Due to the risk of re-aggravation, the team will be very cautious with his rehabilitation.
For fantasy baseball teams, this is a considerable loss. When Turner does return to play, his ability to contribute stolen bases, a key part of his value, will likely be significantly reduced. However, the good news is that the injury is not expected to be season-ending.
The Phillies are hopeful that Turner will be fully healthy for the second half of the season and any potential postseason play. This should allow him to contribute significantly in those critical periods, even if his performance might initially be impacted upon his return.
