Padres right fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. left Friday night's game against the Pirates after being struck on the forearm during his third-inning plate appearance. He was later diagnosed with a left arm contusion, and X-rays revealed no fractures.
"That was not the swelling of a fracture! That was swelling of a broken blood vessel." @profootballdoc shares his video analysis of Fernando Tatis hit by pitch.
By video analysis we did not anticipate a fracture of the arm, it was likely the swelling of a blood vessel. Tatis exited the game and was replaced by Oscar Gonzalez. We believe any missed time by Tatis will be a short absence and that Tatis continues his hot start to the season batting .345 with eight home runs and 18 RBIs. His 1.021 OPS also ranks third across MLB.
