NFL Week 5 is here and several stars around the NFL are battling injuries that could impact their availability and team performance. Here’s the latest from around the league, based on medical reports, practice updates, and video analysis from Pro Football Doc.
Jayden Daniels – Knee
The Commanders’ QB has missed the last two games with a knee injury but has now been medically cleared. Daniels practiced fully this week, and should be near 100% for Week 5.
Lamar Jackson – Hamstring
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson left Week 4 with a hamstring issue. Reports indicate that his hamstring injury is more "week-to-week" than 2-3 weeks. Jackson will not play in Week 5, and according to Pro Football Doc, he could miss Week 6 as well, so the Ravens can get him extra time to recover ahead of their bye week.
Trey Benson – Knee (IR)
The Cardinals placed RB Trey Benson on injured reserve following arthroscopic surgery to repair a meniscus injury. His recovery timeline is estimated at 4–6 weeks, sidelining him until at least midseason.
Bucky Irving – Foot
Bucs RB Bucky Irving was spotted in crutches and a boot, signaling a foot sprain that the team views as a week-to-week issue. While the team has not ruled him out long-term, sources suggest this could be a lingering injury to monitor. Irving will not play in Week 5.
Brock Bowers - PCL
Brock Bowers was a limited practice participant on Wednesday due to a knee injury. He didn’t practice on Thursday and Friday. Head Coach Peter Carroll says he expects his star tight end to play on Sunday. If he suits up, he will still be hampered by the PCL injury he sustained in Week 1.
J.J. McCarthy – Ankle
The Vikings continue to take a cautious approach with QB J.J. McCarthy. The team has stated he won’t return until he can practice fully for an entire week. He was a DNP all week. With Minnesota on bye in Week 6, McCarthy is expected to rest and potentially target a Week 7 return against the Eagles.
Chuba Hubbard - Calf
Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard was limited last week with a calf injury but played in Week 4, taking 51% of the snaps. Hubbard did not practice on Thursday and Friday due to the same injury and will not play in Week 5. Rico Dowdle is expected to take the majority of his snaps.
CeeDee Lamb – Ankle
Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb is out of a walking boot and has resumed rehab work. Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Lamb is “progressing well,” but Lamb will not play in Week 5. Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters Lamb could be close to returning, "I think the window is getting smaller.”
Terry McLaurin - Quad
McLaurin will miss his second straight game with the quad injury suffered in Week 3 against the Raiders. The good news: he returned to practice Thursday for the first time since the injury, participating in team stretching drills. The bad news: the Commanders ruled him out for Week 5.
Mike Evans – Hamstring
Buccaneers WR Mike Evans is once again dealing with a hamstring injury. Evans missed Week 4 and has been ruled out for Week 5 after not practicing all week.
Joe Mixon – Foot
Texans RB Joe Mixon is not expected to be activated off the non-football injury list this week as he continues to rehab his foot. Houston will likely reassess his status closer to midseason.
