With the 2026 MLB season underway, injuries are already beginning to shape rosters, rotations and lineup decisions across the league. From stars landing on the injured list to key contributors playing through early-season issues, here is the MLB Injury Report for the week of April 12th, with the latest notable injuries and what they could mean moving forward.
Johan Duran - Philadelphia Phillies
Duran has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique. Duran said the injury is very mild and occurred during a side session Friday, and he underwent an MRI on Saturday morning.
Christian Yelich - Milwaukee Brewers
Yelich was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left groin strain, two days after leaving Sunday’s loss to the Nationals early.
Jackson Holliday - Baltimore Orioles
Holliday’s rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk has been paused because of right wrist soreness, delaying his return to the Orioles. The team said the soreness is not uncommon following hamate surgery, and Holliday will be shut down for a few days before being re-evaluated.
Jeremy Peña - Houston Astros
Peña was placed on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain after leaving Saturday’s game with tightness behind his right knee. He did not play Sunday and said Monday he does not have a return timeline but wants to be fully healthy before coming back.
Harrison Bader - San Francisco Giants
Bader was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, while Jared Oliva also landed on the IL with a left wrist hamate fracture. San Francisco recalled outfielders Will Brennan and Drew Gilbert from Triple-A to fill the roster spots.
Gerrit Cole - New York Yankees
Cole’s first rehab start since Tommy John surgery went well, as he allowed three runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings for Double-A Somerset while throwing 36 of 44 pitches for strikes. Most importantly, he came out of the outing healthy, and his next start is expected to come at either Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre or High-A Hudson Valley.
George Springer - Toronto Blue Jays
Springer was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday after suffering a fractured left big toe in Saturday’s loss to the Twins. Manager John Schneider said more should be known in the next couple of days after additional imaging.
Ryan Mountcastle - Baltimore Orioles
Mountcastle has a broken fourth metatarsal in his left foot and was placed on the 60-day IL. Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said Monday that the team has not yet determined whether surgery will be required.
Blake Snell - Los Angeles Dodgers
Snell faced live hitters Saturday for the first time since being shut down with left shoulder fatigue, throwing a 15-pitch simulated inning at Dodger Stadium.
Brent Rooker - Athletics
Rooker was placed on the 10-day injured list after an MRI revealed a right oblique strain. He suffered the injury after fouling off a pitch in the first inning of Thursday’s game against the Yankees.
Nick Pivetta - San Diego Padres
Pivetta will be out for weeks, and possibly months, after an MRI revealed a flexor strain in his right elbow. Manager Craig Stammen said the plan is for Pivetta to rehab the injury and avoid surgery, with hope that he will return later this season.
Joe Boyle - Tampa Bay Rays
Boyle was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Friday, with a right elbow strain. Manager Kevin Cash called the move precautionary, saying the team hopes it caught the issue early, and Boyle is expected to be shut down from throwing for about a week.
Cade Horton - Chicago Cubs
Horton underwent his second Tommy John surgery on Thursday and is expected to miss 15 to 16 months. Horton had been expected to be one of Chicago’s top starters this year.
Daniel Palencia - Chicago Cubs
Palencia has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left oblique strain, the team announced Friday.
Porter Hodge - Chicago Cubs
Reliever Hodge suffered a setback in his recovery from a right flexor strain and will undergo season-ending surgery Monday to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.
