From Corey Seager’s emergency surgery in Texas to Xander Bogaerts’ fractured foot in San Diego, multiple contenders are scrambling to keep key stars on the field for the playoff push. Here are the latest injury developments.


American League

Boston Red Sox

  • Wilyer Abreu (calf tightness): Hopes to sprint on Sept. 1, targeting a Sept. 5 return when the Red Sox open a road trip in Arizona.

  • Liam Hendriks (hip inflammation): Progressed to 105 feet in his throwing program, aiming for 120 on Aug. 30 and a mound session next week.

  • Richard Fitts (arm neuritis): On the 15-day IL since Aug. 26, scheduled for full evaluation this weekend.

Chicago White Sox

  • Luis Robert Jr. (hamstring): Grade 2 strain sustained Aug. 27 could end his season.

  • Miguel Vargas (hand sprain): Placed on IL Aug. 29 after colliding at first base with Aaron Judge.

Cleveland Guardians

  • Gabriel Arias (hand contusion): Left Aug. 29 game after HBP on his right hand.

  • John Means (UCL surgery recovery): Threw bullpen Aug. 29; also made third rehab start Aug. 26, allowing three homers in three innings for Triple-A Columbus.

  • Alex Cobb (hip inflammation): Rehab assignment halted Aug. 26 due to lingering soreness.

  • Parker Meadows (quad strain): Began rehab assignment Aug. 27 with Triple-A Toledo.

Houston Astros

  • Victor Caratini (concussion): On 7-day IL after foul tips on Aug. 24 and 26.

  • Jake Meyers (calf strain): Started rehab assignment Aug. 27 with Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • Jackson Merrill (ankle sprain): Took BP and ran aggressively Aug. 29; IL stint won’t extend far past eligibility date.
