MLB Injury Report: Latest Updates on Eovaldi, Betts, Harper, Varsho, Ragans & More (June 1, 2025)

American League

Angels

  • Mike Trout (knee bone bruise): The Angels will activate Trout before Friday’s game against the Guardians, kicking off a six-game road trip. Trout, 33, has been out since April 30 with a contusion on his surgically repaired left knee but returned to full baseball activities this week. A rehab stint was not needed. The Angels went 13-13 without him, and their offense ranks 11th in runs, 17th in OPS, and last in walk-to-strikeout ratio.

  • Logan O'Hoppe (precautionary removal after backswing): Hopes to play May 27; undergoing testing.

  • Robert Stephenson (UCL tear): Rejoined team after five rehab appearances.

Astros

  • Ronel Blanco (UCL tear): Will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2025 season and part of the 2026 season.

  • Yordan Alvarez (right hand): A small fracture was discovered in his hand, extending his timeline. No return date set.

Blue Jays

  • Andrés Giménez (quad): Targeting return June 3 vs. Phillies.

  • Erik Swanson (nerve entrapment): May be activated by June 1.

Guardians

  • Steven Kwan (Wrist): Exited the May 28 game against the Dodgers due to right wrist inflammation, he will be day-to-day and the Guardians next game is on May 30.

  • Ben Lively (UCL): Lively will undergo season-ending surgery to reconstruct his right elbow UCL and repair his flexor tendon.

  • Shane Bieber (UCL tear): Live BP May 26; starts May 31 in Arizona.

  • Carlos Santana (leg tightness): Missed two straight games.

  • David Fry (UCL revision): Rehab now at Triple-A Columbus.

Orioles

  • Cedric Mullins (hamstring): Added to the 10-day injured list on May 30 due to a right hamstring strain.

  • Adley Rutschman (precautionary removal): Missed May 26 after foul tip to mask.

  • Colton Cowser (thumb): Rehab transferred to Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Jordan Westburg (hamstring): Starting Triple-A rehab.

  • Gary Sánchez (wrist): Hit on-field for first time since IL stint on May 26.

Rangers

  • Nathan Eovaldi (triceps fatigue): Placed on 15-day IL June 1 after exiting May 27 start. Team not concerned long-term.

  • Evan Carter (quad): Started rehab with Triple-A Round Rock on May 30.

  • Corey Seager (hamstring): Activated from the injured list to play May 28 against the Blue Jays.

  • Joc Pederson (fractured hand): Out at least six weeks after May 25 IL move.

Red Sox

  • Alex Bregman (quad): Placed on IL May 24; injury labeled "significant."

  • Richard Fitts (pectoral): Scheduled to start May 27 in Triple-A.

Royals

  • Cole Ragans (groin): Progressing through rehab, may make a rehab start this weekend and possibly could return to the Royals rotation next week.

  • Seth Lugo (finger): Bullpen May 24; targeting May 29 return.

Tigers

  • Jackson Jobe (elbow): Placed on IL May 30 with right elbow flexor strain.

Twins

  • Byron Buxton (concussion protocol): Participated in batting practice on the field on May 28 but no set date for return.

  • Harrison Bader (finger): Missed May 26; not serious.

Yankees

  • Giancarlo Stanton (elbows): Live ABs/sim games this week in Tampa.

  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique): Full workout May 27; rehab could start by weekend.

  • Luis Gil (lat): Could throw from mound May 30.

  • Marcus Stroman (knee): Bullpen session set for May 27.

National League

Braves

  • AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) will miss the remainder of this season and likely most of next due to a torn UCL in his pitching elbow.

Cubs

  • Kirby Yates (hamstring): Threw first bullpen May 30, progressing well.

Giants

  • Justin Verlander (pectoral): Bullpen session May 27 in Detroit.

Mariners

  • Bryce Miller (right elbow inflammation) is scheduled to return from IL to start May 31 against the Twins.

  • Logan Gilbert (right elbow flexor strain) began a rehab assignment May 29 with Triple-A Tacoma.

Mets

  • Sean Manaea (oblique): Faces live hitters May 29.

  • Jose Siri (fractured tibia): Same timeline as Manaea.

  • Jesse Winker (oblique): Still not doing baseball activities.

Padres

  • Michael King (shoulder): 15-day IL as of May 25; shoulder recovery has been trending downward. What was not believed to be a serious injury when the starting pitcher woke up with shoulder stiffness one day has sparked more concerns with the news that a nerve in his shoulder is being impacted. If managed correctly, it should not be a long-term issue but his time frame for return is uncertain at this time. This leaves the Padres down three rotation pitchers with King, Musgrove and Darvish still out.

  • Yu Darvish (elbow): Played catch May 26; progressing.

Phillies

  • Bryce Harper (elbow): Expected back June 3 vs. Blue Jays; last played May 27.

  • Aaron Nola (ankle): Bullpen session scheduled June 1; if successful, live BP and rehab to follow.

Rockies

  • Thairo Estrada (wrist): Could return during May 26–June 4 road trip.

Brewers

  • Brandon Woodruff (shoulder/ankle): Rehab start scheduled for May 27; possible final minor league appearance.
