MLB Injury Report: Latest Updates on Ohtani, Trout, Harper, Eovaldi, Ragans & More (May 29, 2025)

American League

Angels

  • Mike Trout (knee bone bruise): The Angels will activate Trout before Friday’s game against the Guardians, kicking off a six-game road trip. Trout, 33, has been out since April 30 with a contusion on his surgically repaired left knee but returned to full baseball activities this week. A rehab stint was not needed. The Angels went 13-13 without him, and their offense ranks 11th in runs, 17th in OPS, and last in walk-to-strikeout ratio.

  • Logan O'Hoppe (precautionary removal after backswing): Hopes to play May 27; undergoing testing.

  • Robert Stephenson (UCL tear): Rejoined team after five rehab appearances.

Astros

  • Ronel Blanco (UCL tear): Will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the remainder of the 2025 season and part of the 2026 season.

  • Yordan Alvarez (hand): Is “really close” to returning from a right hand injury, according to manager Joe Espada. Alvarez, out since May 3, hit off a pitching machine Thursday and is scheduled to face live pitching Friday. The team hopes to get him game-ready without a rehab assignment.

Blue Jays

  • Andrés Giménez (quad): Ramping up, expected to start rehab games this week.

  • Yimi García (shoulder): Received cortisone shot, resting.

  • Tyler Heineman (concussion): Placed on 7-day IL May 25.

Guardians

  • Steven Kwan (Wrist): Exited the May 28 game against the Dodgers due to right wrist inflammation, he will be day-to-day and the Guardians next game is on May 30.

  • Ben Lively (UCL): Lively will undergo season-ending surgery to reconstruct his right elbow UCL and repair his flexor tendon.

  • Shane Bieber (UCL tear): Live BP May 26; starts May 31 in Arizona.

  • Carlos Santana (leg tightness): Missed two straight games.

  • David Fry (UCL revision): Rehab now at Triple-A Columbus.

Orioles

  • Adley Rutschman (precautionary removal): Missed May 26 after foul tip to mask.

  • Colton Cowser (thumb): Rehab transferred to Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Jordan Westburg (hamstring): Starting Triple-A rehab.

  • Gary Sánchez (wrist): Hit on-field for first time since IL stint on May 26.

Rangers

  • Nathan Eovaldi (triceps): Exited the May 27 game against the Blue Jays after two innings due to right triceps fatigue, team stated the move was precautionary and he is expected to make his next scheduled.

  • Corey Seager (hamstring): Activated from the injured list to play May 28 against the Blue Jays.

  • Evan Carter (quad): Rehab assignment likely soon.

  • Joc Pederson (fractured hand): Out at least six weeks after May 25 IL move.

Red Sox

  • Alex Bregman (quad): Placed on IL May 24; injury labeled "significant."

  • Richard Fitts (pectoral): Scheduled to start May 27 in Triple-A.

Royals

  • Cole Ragans (groin): Progressing through rehab, may make a rehab start this weekend and possibly could return to the Royals rotation next week.

  • Seth Lugo (finger): Bullpen May 24; targeting May 29 return.

Twins

  • Byron Buxton (concussion protocol): Participated in batting practice on the field on May 28 but no set date for return.

  • Harrison Bader (finger): Missed May 26; not serious.

Yankees

  • Giancarlo Stanton (elbows): Live ABs/sim games this week in Tampa.

  • Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique): Full workout May 27; rehab could start by weekend.

  • Luis Gil (lat): Could throw from mound May 30.

  • Marcus Stroman (knee): Bullpen session set for May 27.

National League

Braves

  • AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) exited Thursday’s game vs. the Phillies with a strained right elbow after appearing to tell manager Brian Snitker he felt a “pop” during an at-bat. The 22-year-old gave up a two-run homer and took a 96.6 mph liner off his ankle before leaving in the third inning. Snitker said afterward, “It doesn’t look good.” He was placed on the 15-day IL.

Cubs

  • Shota Imanaga (hamstring): Bullpen session May 27.

  • Javier Assad (oblique): Resumed throwing.

  • Porter Hodge (oblique): No recent progress.

  • Miguel Amaya (oblique): Hit 10-day IL on May 25.

D-backs

  • Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder): Sim game May 24, bullpen May 27.

  • A.J. Puk (elbow): Playing catch from 75 feet.

Dodgers

  • Shohei Ohtani (elbow/shoulder): Faced hitters May 25; may throw again May 29.

  • Roki Sasaki (shoulder): Throwing program starts week of May 26.

  • Evan Phillips (elbow ): transferred RHP Evan Phillips to the 60-day injured list.

Giants

  • Justin Verlander (pectoral): Bullpen session May 27 in Detroit.

Mets

  • Sean Manaea (oblique): Faces live hitters May 29.

  • Jose Siri (fractured tibia): Same timeline as Manaea.

  • Jesse Winker (oblique): Still not doing baseball activities.

Padres

  • Michael King (shoulder): 15-day IL as of May 25; improving.

  • Yu Darvish (elbow): Played catch May 26; progressing.

Phillies

  • Bryce Harper (elbow): Exited the May 27 game against the Braves after being hit on the right elbow in the first inning. X-rays came back negative.

  • Aaron Nola (ankle): Missed May 24 bullpen; hoping to throw this week.

Rockies

  • Thairo Estrada (wrist): Could return during May 26–June 4 road trip.

Brewers

  • Brandon Woodruff (shoulder/ankle): Rehab start scheduled for May 27; possible final minor league appearance.
