MLB Injury Report: Week of 3/30/2025

Freddie Freeman - Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers announced Thursday that Freeman has been placed on the 10-day IL with a right ankle injury, retroactive to Monday. The injury occurred Sunday morning when Freeman slipped and fell in the shower during the team’s off day. Freeman sprained his right ankle in late September and struggled early in the postseason, but bounced back with a dominant World Series, homering in four straight games and driving in 12 runs to earn MVP honors as the Dodgers beat the Yankees in five. He underwent ankle debridement surgery in December to remove loose bodies.

Max Scherzer – Toronto Blue Jays

Scherzer was placed on the 15-day IL with right thumb inflammation. The move comes just one day after the three-time Cy Young Award winner exited his Toronto debut after three innings due to soreness in his right lat. After Saturday’s game, Scherzer said, "This thumb is absolutely critical to your arm health. I got to get this 100% before I pitch again." Scherzer has dealt with a plethora of injuries over the past three seasons, combining for only 36 starts.

Sean Manaea - New York Mets

Manaea has suffered a setback in his recovery from a right oblique strain and won’t throw for two weeks, per manager Carlos Mendoza. Manaea experienced discomfort while ramping up and received a PRP injection after imaging showed inflammation. Originally expected back in late April, that timeline is now unlikely. Manaea has been on the IL since March 27 and did not pitch this spring.

Josh Lowe – Tampa Bay Rays

Rays placed outfielder Josh Lowe on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a strained right oblique. Lowe was injured in Friday’s opener, a year after missing 46 games with a similar issue. Manager Kevin Cash said Lowe will be out for “multiple weeks” “I don’t really want to put a number out there on how long it’s going to take, but it is a little worse than what happened last year,” Lowe said

Coltson Cowser - Baltimore Orioles

Cowser fractured his left thumb sliding into first on Sunday and was placed on the 10-day IL. He’s expected to miss 6–8 weeks. Cowser now joins a growing list of key O’s on the IL, including Gunnar Henderson (rib strain), Grayson Rodriguez (elbow), and Andrew Kittredge (knee surgery).

Jerar Encarnacion – San Francisco Giants

Encarnacion will have surgery Monday on his broken left hand after Encarnacion was injured diving for a catch Friday. The club announced that Encarnacion is expected to miss approximately eight weeks and will be in a splint for two weeks before beginning his rehabilitation process, which will likely sideline him until at least June. He hit .302 with 2 homers and 14 RBIs this spring after batting .248 with 5 homers and 19 RBIs in 2024 in only 113 at bats.

Aaron Civale - Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers placed Aaron Civale on the 15-day IL with a left hamstring strain after he exited Sunday’s start vs. the Yankees in the third inning. He struggled early, giving up a homer to Aaron Judge after three straight three-ball counts to open the game. The Brewers' rotation is already without Tobias Myers, Aaron Ashby, DL Hall, Brandon Woodruff, and Robert Gasser.
