The New York Mets placed left fielder Juan Soto on the injured list Monday after he suffered a minor right calf strain while running the bases Friday against the San Francisco Giants.
Soto is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks. He underwent an MRI on Saturday to evaluate the injury.
The absence is notable given Soto’s recent durability. He has played in at least 157 games in each of the past three seasons, establishing himself as one of the game’s most reliable everyday players.
The injury interrupts a strong start to his second season with the Mets. Through eight games, Soto was batting 11-for-34 with a .928 OPS.
