New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow bone bruise, marking his second IL stint this season with the same injury.
Fried previously missed more than two months after suffering the bone bruise when he hyperextended his left elbow. He returned on July 22 and made five starts before the recurring issue forced him back to the injured list.
Max Fried's Elbow Injury
Fried's original injury was caused by a hyperextension of the elbow rather than direct contact.
The 32-year-old had been effective since returning, posting a 1.82 ERA over 24 2/3 innings across five starts.
In his most recent outing Thursday against the Mariners, Fried worked five innings and allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four.
When Will Max Fried Return?
The Yankees have not announced a return timeline for Fried. Because this is the same left elbow bone bruise that previously sidelined him for more than two months, his response to treatment will be important in determining when he can return to the rotation.
The recurrence comes despite Fried pitching effectively after his July 22 return, posting a 1.82 ERA over five starts. He is 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA across 15 starts this season.
