Miami Marlins young lefty Jesus Luzardo was placed on the 15-day IL Sunday with a left forearm strain.
Jesus Luzardo Injury Report
Luzardo was placed on the IL retroactive to Thursday, with the Marlins bringing up first baseman Lewin Diaz from Triple-A Jacksonville.
Forearm strains can be an unfortunate signal of potential ligament damage, but Luzardo downplayed that possibility. The 24-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery in high school, but said his current injury wasn't similar to what he felt back then.
He described the injury as “stiffness” and “soreness” between starts, but not while he was pitching.
Through six starts, Luzardo has a 4.03 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and 41 strikeouts through 29 innings pitched.
If he's out for just the minimum 15 days, he would miss just one turn in the rotation because the Marlins have three upcoming off-days before the end of May.
Marlins World Series Odds
The Marlins, 15-19, are at +7500 to win the World Series and +2000 to win the NL East, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
