Giants Outfielder Depth Severely Limited, Jung Hoo Lee Suffers Shoulder Injury

Update: The San Francisco Giants have ruled Jung Hoo Lee for the rest of the season. Lee will undergo season-ending labrum surgery.

The San Francisco Giants have confirmed that free agent signing Jung Hoo Lee has been diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder. This diagnosis aligns with our analysis on the Sports Injury Central podcast on Monday, May 15.

At sicscore.com, we are concerned that Lee could face an extended absence. He likely suffered a transient subluxation, which often results in a labral tear and a long recovery period.

The injury occurred when he crashed into the wall while fielding a ball, a situation less common at home due to familiarity with the park. This is Lee's first year with the team meaning he is still getting accustomed to the San Francisco ballpark.

He is now headed for a second opinion, but an extended absence seems likely.

This injury compounds the outfield woes for the Giants. Michael Conforto was placed on the IL over the weekend due to a hamstring injury. Jorge Soler has missed the majority of May with a shoulder issue but is close to returning despite a recent incident where he clumsily hit himself in the face with a foul ball. Additionally, Austin Slater is on the IL due to concussion symptoms from the weekend as he also slammed into the outfield wall.

With so much of their offense sidelined, the Giants are expected to struggle in the coming weeks.
