Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low-grade right calf strain.

Stanton exited Friday’s Yankees game after experiencing calf stiffness while running the bases. He did not play the rest of the weekend and underwent an MRI on Monday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the injury does not appear to be serious, but the team did not want to wait any longer.

“It doesn’t look too serious, but enough to not want to wait a couple of more days,” Boone said.

Boone did not give a timetable for Stanton’s return but said it is possible he could be activated once he is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list.

Stanton is hitting .256 this season with three home runs and 14 RBIs.
