The Dodgers reinstated star Mookie Betts from the 10-day IL and he will start and play right field against the division rival Padres on Sunday.
The 29-year-old suffered a cracked rib when he took an elbow from Cody Bellinger chasing after a fly ball on June 15.
Betts went to the IL on June 19 and projected that he would be able to return in two weeks, which at the time even Dave Roberts said was audacious.
The ProBaseballDocs anticipated a four-to-six week absence to heal the rib. Once the rib is healed, Betts is unlikely to have lingering effects on his performance.
The former MVP posted a career-worst batting average and defensive WAR while fighting the hip issue.
Betts is batting .273 with an .884 OPS, 17 home runs, 40 RBI, and 53 runs in 245 at-bats this season.
