Astros Injury Report: Michael Brantley Heads To 10-Day IL With Shoulder Injury

The AL West-leading Astros placed designated hitter and leftfielder Michael Brantley on the 10-day IL on Tuesday for right shoulder discomfort.

Michael Brantley Injury Update

Dusty Baker removed Brantley in the eighth inning of Sunday's game but neither Brantley nor the Astros have disclosed if the injury was due to compensation or the result of one specific play.

The 35-year-old went 0-3 with two strikeouts after a foul tip and his backswing hit home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski in the facemask on the first pitch of his first at-bat.

J.J. Matijevic pinch-hit for him on Sunday and 27-year-old Chas McCormick started in left field on Tuesday.

Brantley is batting .288 with five home runs, 14 doubles, 28 runs, 28 RBI, and a 31 to 30 walk-to-strikeout ratio in 243 at-bats this season.

The Astros, 46-27, continue to push their lead in the AL West and just got rookie shortstop Jeremy Peña back from the IL.
