The Yankees placed Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day IL Saturday with right wrist inflammation after he appeared to suffer the injury on a swing in Friday's game.
While the exact nature of Benintendi's wrist injury is unclear, his absence could easily stretch beyond the minimum 10 days because the right wrist is heavily involved in the swinging motion for a left-handed hitter.
The worst case scenario would be a triangular fibrocartilage complex tear in his wrist, according to the Pro Baseball Docs.
New York recalled Estevan Florial from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace the outfielder.
Benintendi, 28, has played in 33 games for the Yankees after a trade from Kansas City in late July.
He hit .320 with 39 RBIs and a .387 OBP in 93 games with the Royals this season.
With the Yankees, he's hitting .254 with 12 RBIs and a .331 OBP.
New York sits 4 games clear of the Rays in the AL East after going 13-13 in July and 10-18 in August.

Looks like Andrew Benintendi injured himself on this swing. Hope it’s nothing serious
