Yankees star Aaron Judge will be placed on the injured list with a flexor strain in his right elbow. According to Manager Aaron Boone Judge is expected to miss at least 10 days and will return as a designated hitter before resuming outfield duties. Boone also said that Judge does not have a UCL tear.
An MRI confirmed the flexor strain, and Boone noted Judge "couldn't really throw from the outfield." Judge first began showing signs of discomfort on Tuesday after a throwing during the Yankees game against Toronto. Judge was a late scratch from the lineup for Saturday's game vs the Phillies.
The injury comes at a critical point in the AL MVP race, where Judge leads in batting average and OPS. The Yankees are six games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East with the trade deadline looming on July 31, adding urgency to how the team might respond to their MVP’s absence.
