Significant Worry for Ronald Acuna Jr. After Leaving With Knee Injury

Updated May 27 8am PT

An MRI confirmed a complete left knee ACL tear meaning he will need surgery and miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

The Atlanta Braves star outfielder exited the Pirates-Braves game in the first inning due to left knee soreness, as reported by the team.

The outfielder has a history of left ACL issues dating back to 2018, although this current injury is not likely related.

Acuna Jr. came into the 2024 season with slight doubts about his ability to perform at his 2023 MVP level. These doubts were due to irritation in his right meniscus that required a scope before the season started. His current left knee issue adds to the challenges he has faced with knee health throughout his career.

For now, the Braves and their fans should expect an IL stay for one of MLB's top players. The team will closely monitor his progress and determine the best course of action for his recovery.
