Pro Baseball Docs say the oblique is crucial for a power swing, thus Alvarez will need to be close to 100% to return - was placed on 10-day IL with a right oblique strain he suffered on June 8
Jun 9, 2023
Placed on 10-day IL with a right oblique strain he suffered on June 8 - will be out beyond the minimum 10 days but hopefully back well before the 60-day mark - the oblique is crucial for providing power in the swing, thus a longer absence for the power-hitting lefty - has 17 home runs on the season
Jun 9, 2023
Was pinch hit for in the third inning of June 8 game due to right oblique discomfort, oblique issues always difficult for batters to deal with but for now will see the severity but will likely take a few days off to gauge discomfort, IL stint in the cards as the Astros will need to play it safe with their star outfielder
May 10, 2023
Returned to the lineup May 1 after missing four games due to a neck issue, issues like this can linger and will monitor his status but good news he was able to avoid a IL stint - hand issue less of a concern for now as Alvarez is swinging the bat well out the gate
