Joe Burrow Out for Regular Season and Playoffs with Wrist Injury

Joe Burrow - SIC score 5

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is out for the remainder of the regular season and will undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.

The bad news for Burrow and the Bengals is he has no chance of a playoff return no matter how deep the Bengals make it, according to the Pro Football Docs.

By video, Burrow suffered a scapholunate ligament tear when Jadeveon Clowney landed on his wrist at the Q2 6:28 mark.

The “pop” Burrow felt on the ensuing touchdown pass was his 2 bones shifting because of the complete ligament tear.

Burrow exited Thursday's contest before the next drive after having trouble gripping the football and throwing.

Surgery to repair the scapholunate ligament carries a lengthy recovery but he should be ready for the start of next season and is unlikely to have career ramifications related to the injury.

Here is the play where he suffered the injury. The second play from scrimmage in Week 10 appeared to be a wrist contusion and was not the same injury mechanism.

He was not on the injury report for a wrist injury, but was seen wearing a brace when getting off the team bus.

Burrow claimed that what he was wearing was a compression sleeve and was not for a previous injury.

QB Jake Browning took over for Burrow on Thursday and was 8 for 14 for 68 yards and a touchdown.

He has not started a game in his NFL career.

Burrow finishes the regular season with 2,309 yards, 15 touchdowns and 6 interceptions in 10 games. He also ran for 88 yards on 31 rushes.

#Bengals QB Joe Burrow says he "felt a pop" on his TD pass to Joe Mixon after landing on his wrist the previous play. Acknowledges wearing a compression sleeve on the wrist while traveling, but he does that from time to time and this is "a completely new injury."

#Bengals QB Joe Burrow says the device he was wearing off the plane was a compression sleeve, not a brace for an injury. "It's not uncommon for guys to wear compression sleeves on the plane. When you go up to that altitude, things can swell up."
