Utah vs. Oregon State Injury Preview: Who will miss the Pac-12 matchup?

In Friday's matchup between No. 10 Utah and No. 19 Oregon State, numerous injury concerns loom large. The Utes, fresh from a significant victory over UCLA, are grappling with a growing list of injuries. Meanwhile, Oregon State is expected to be highly motivated following a demoralizing loss to Washington State.

Utah Utes

Utah stands out as one of the most injury-plagued teams in college football, with a projected 10 players sidelined due to various injuries. Despite the adversity, the Utes have managed to secure victories against two ranked opponents, all while missing several key players.

Quarterback Cam Rising has been a source of uncertainty since Week 1, when he sustained a torn ACL during the team's bowl game. Reports indicate that he is progressing toward a potential return, a development crucial for the Utes as they face tougher opponents in the future.

Running back Ja'Quinden Jackson has been battling an ankle injury since fall camp and has endured setbacks in each of the team's games. He has demonstrated remarkable resilience by playing through the injury, but his explosiveness appears to be somewhat compromised. Complicating matters, his backup, Micah Bernard, is out for the season, resulting in third-string running back Jaylon Glover shouldering an increased workload.

Wide receiver Mycah Pittman, a transfer from Florida State, has been absent from action for the past two weeks due to an undisclosed injury.

Tight end Brant Kuithe was expected to be the team's top option after Dalton Kincaid's departure to the NFL. However, Kuithe suffered an ACL injury last season and has yet to make his return to the field.

Oregon State Beavers

Oregon State is coming off a narrow loss to Washington State, during which they fought back to reduce the Cougars' lead to just three points. The team is expected to be highly motivated this week; however, several injuries may hinder their ability to perform at their best.

Middle linebacker Makiya Tongue sustained a devastating injury during a special teams play, tearing his ACL, MCL, patella tendon, and meniscus in his left knee. Regrettably, this injury has prematurely ended Tongue's season and raises doubts about his potential return next year. Additionally, Mason Tufaga, who was set to step in as Tongue's backup, has been unable to play due to an undisclosed injury.

Outside linebacker Ryan Franke missed the entire 2022 season due to injury and has not yet made a comeback. Coach Smith has confirmed that Franke is still working towards a full recovery and has not yet regained full health.
