Update: Now listed as QUESTIONABLE to return
Eagles running back Saquon Barkley left Sunday's game against the Rams in the first quarter after appearing to injure his right hamstring on a sweep to the left side of the field. Barkley pulled up on the play and was attended to by trainers before exiting to the locker room. He entered the game still managing the stinger from Week 2 and was wearing a protective collar. The Eagles haven't announced a diagnosis or his return status.
ProFootballDoc, described it as an apparent right hamstring strain and pointed to wet conditions as a contributing factor. Poor footing, especially early in the season, raises the risk of soft-tissue injuries, since a back planting and cutting on a slick surface can load the hamstring awkwardly. Chao noted that Barkley is still wearing the collar for the stinger and said how long he's out depends on the severity found on the MRI. That diagnosis is his outside read, not something the team has confirmed.
As a general guide, a mild Grade 1 strain often means one to two weeks, a Grade 2 partial tear typically runs three to six weeks, and a Grade 3 tear can mean two months or more. For a running back who depends on acceleration and cutting, reinjury risk makes teams cautious about rushing a return. Philadelphia's next three games are at Jacksonville on October 11, home against Carolina on October 18, and Monday night at home against Dallas on October 26, with the Week 10 bye as a possible cushion on the longer end. Treat these as ranges until imaging comes back.
The timing is awkward given his recent history. The Week 2 stinger sidelined him for most of that game, and an MRI came back with good results before he was cleared for the Bears. In October 2025, he left a win over the Giants with a Grade 2 groin strain and didn't return, and injury databases list a Grade 1 hamstring pull in 2018 camp. His past also includes a torn ACL and MCL in 2020 and ankle sprains in 2019, 2021, and 2023. With Barkley out, expect Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley to handle the backfield, depending on their own health, and watch for the MRI result and his practice status this week.
