San Diego Padres Injury Report - Jurickson Profar Expected to Land on Injured List

List of key San Diego Padres sidelined or hampered - Updated June 12

Jurickson Profar LF, (Knee)

Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar has been dealing with left knee tendonitis before leaving the Padres 6/11 contest prematurely. According to our Pro Baseball Docs, the issue appears to be more serious than initially thought. While the biggest concern for non-contact knee injuries is often an ACL tear, our video analysis does not support this diagnosis. Instead, there is a worry that Profar may be experiencing a patella subluxation, which would necessitate a stint on the injured list (IL). Expect him to be placed in the coming days as the severity of the issue is reported.

Manny Machado 3B, (Hip Flexor)

The Padres third basemen is considered day-to-day with a minor right hip flexor strain suffered on June 5 while running to first base. Machado played a pinch hitter role on June 6 and is likely to remain in a reduced role for a few days to ensure full recovery and prevent further issues. Machado missed the contest on Friday, and experts at sicscore.com opined that rest is the only way this type of injury can get better. Expect the corner infielder to be used sparingly in the coming days.

Xander Bogaerts 2B, (Shoulder Fracture)

The former Red Sox infielder is currently on the IL recovering from a shoulder fracture. He is expected to be out for 2-3 months, with our Pro Baseball Docs anticipating a return sometime in August. Bogaerts is having an underwhelming statistical year, with 4 home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .219 batting average in 187 at-bats.

Yu Darvish SP, (Groin)

Starting pitcher Yu Darvish is currently recovering from a left groin issue that landed him on the 15-day injured list, marking the second time this season he has been placed on the IL. His stay is expected to last longer than 15 days. Pitching injuries have been a persistent problem for the Padres this year.

Joe Musgrove SP, (Triceps/Bone Spur)

Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove was added to the 15-day IL after experiencing further issues with his right elbow, now diagnosed as a bone spur and a bone bruise. He recently received PRP and cortisone injections, with the hope of resuming throwing in two weeks. However, we at sicscore.com believe this is a concerning sign for Musgrove's future. Bone spurs are recurrent and do not go away; while they can sometimes be managed, we lean towards Musgrove eventually needing surgery that could push a return into August with a chance of it being season ending.
