Penn State Injury update: Will Penn State be able to stop Cameron Rising without Joey Porter?

The Rose Bowl will be played this season between the Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2) and Utah Utes (10-3). The famous Rose Bowl will occur on Monday, Jan. 2, at 5:00 p.m. ET.

This will be the last Rose Bowl in its current format because of the changes to the College Football Playoff. Next year the game will be a College Football Playoff semifinal.

The Nittany Lions have battled all year in the only conference to have two teams in the College Football Playoff. The team has stayed healthy for the majority of the season. But they will miss two key players in their matchup against the Utes.

Quarterback Sean Clifford’s top two targets this year have been Parker Washington and Mitchell Tinsley. They have helped Penn State build on leads created by its vaunted passing attack. But, Washington had decided to opt out of the game to focus on recovery while preparing for the NFL draft.

Former Miami Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz is the Nittany Lions defensive coordinator. His defensive unit ranks in the top 10 in yards per rush allowed and scoring (18.0 points per game).

This week the top defense will be without cornerback Joey Porter, who has opted out of the bowl game to focus on the NFL draft. Porter is projected to be a first-round pick.

Utah vs. Penn State Odds

Utah is favored by 2.5 points against Penn State, and the over/under is 52.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
