Joe Burrow’s Turf Toe Likely Season-Ending

Pro Football Doc shared a sobering update on Joe Burrow’s injury, noting that if it is indeed a Grade 3 turf toe requiring surgery, it would effectively end his season.

Dr. Chao compared his optimism for Burrow’s return unfavorably to Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles comeback last year, emphasizing just how significant this injury could be. He also shared insight from former NFL QB Philip Rivers, who dealt with a similar turf toe variant in 2020 and described the pain of finishing the season without surgery — a reminder of how difficult this injury can be to play through. If Burrow’s diagnosis is confirmed as Grade 3 and surgery is needed, Bengals fans should prepare for him to miss the remainder of the season.

Justin Fields in Concussion Protocol, Week 3 Status 50/50

According to Pro Football Doc, no two concussions are the same, and it’s impossible to judge the severity just by video. Statistically, players in the concussion protocol have about a 50/50 chance to play the following week.

The key question for the Jets coaching staff, particularly Head Coach Aaron Glenn, will be whether Justin Fields can practice. If Fields is unable to participate most of the week — or at all — that could open the door for veteran Tyrod Taylor to start.

Pro Football Doc notes that while star quarterbacks like Jalen Hurts or Patrick Mahomes would likely start even after missing all week of practice if cleared late, Fields is in a new system and still building chemistry with his team. That makes practice reps more important.

Jayden Daniels Undergoes MRI, Injury Not Expected to Be Serious

Pro Football Doc reports that MRIs are common in the NFL, often used as a precaution after any significant hit. Following a play where Jayden Daniels was hit on his right side and appeared to favor his right leg and knee, he was sent for imaging.

Based on video review and available information, no structural damage is expected. While Daniels is likely sore and may have some swelling, Dr. Chao describes him as “more hurt than injured” and would be very surprised if he misses time. At worst, Daniels might be a half-step slower due to knee soreness, but he is still expected to play in the team’s next game.

Jayden Reed Expected to Miss 6–8 Weeks After Collarbone Surgery

Pro Football Doc confirms that Packers WR Jayden Reed underwent surgery for a right collarbone fracture, which included plate and screw fixation. The expected recovery timeline is 6–8 weeks, which is standard for this procedure, though there’s a chance he could return slightly earlier.

The time off will also give Reed’s lingering foot issue a chance to fully heal, potentially allowing him to come back at 100% for the stretch run.

The timing is tough for Green Bay, especially with Christian Watson still working back from injury despite recently receiving a contract extension. However, Dr. Chao notes that the Packers are likely “playing the long game” here — sitting Reed now to ensure he’s ready for a playoff push, as Green Bay looks like one of the NFC’s early favorites.

Josh Allen Cleared After Brief Concussion Check

Josh Allen briefly left the game for a concussion screening, which is required by NFL protocol when there is visible blood. After being cleared, he was able to return to action without limitations. Pro Football Doc notes that the cotton nose plugs Allen was seen wearing do not impact performance, as most athletes breathe primarily through their mouths during play. In fact, mouth breathing delivers significantly more airflow than nasal breathing.

He also pointed out that products like Breathe Right strips — made famous by stars like Jerry Rice — offer only a minimal benefit and were often applied incorrectly on the bridge of the nose rather than the flare where they could be most effective.

Bottom line: Allen is fine and should not be impacted going forward.
