Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels was evaluated in the blue medical tent and then taken to the locker room after suffering a new injury to his right side during Sunday’s game, briefly leaving the field while favoring his leg. Initial sideline reports and video indicate he avoided major new damage to his previously braced left knee, but early signs point to a possible right-leg hamstring issue that will require further testing and monitoring.

By video, the play in question was a sack where Daniels’ body was twisted and before going down exerted a lot of force on a flexed right knee. Sideline video shows him limping and grabbing the back of his right leg as trainers escorted him off the field. Pro Football Doc believes Daniels suffered a hamstring strain. The MRI will determine the severity and who long he will be sidelined.

Daniels’ recent medical history makes this a particularly delicate moment for Washington. During the early part of the season, he has been wearing a brace on his left knee after a sprain that cost him multiple games. Washington has shown a willingness to protect their young starting quarterback this season. Expect the staff to err on the side of caution rather than rush Daniels back to the field.

If Daniels is limited or unavailable, the Commanders will turn to their veteran backup Marcus Mariota, who has filled in nicely given the circumstances. He led the Commanders to a 41-24 over the Raiders, yet struggled in a loss to the Falcons.
