James Conner Injury Update: Will Ankle Keep Him Out Against Rams?

James Conner was second in the NFL last year with 15 rushing touchdowns. He has been the only consistent back in the Cardinals running back stable. But, during the team’s overtime win against the Las Vegas Raiders, Conner injured his left ankle and did not return.

By video, Conner appeared to suffer a mild inversion, basketball type, ankle sprain while attempting to run a route, according to the Pro Football Docs. He is expected to play on Sunday against the Rams and will mostly likely have his ankle taped.

As of Wednesday, Conner has a SIC score of 78.

Early in the third quarter, Conner suffered a left ankle injury while running a route. Initial reports are that the injury doesn’t seem too serious, and Conner was a limited participant in practice today.

Before leaving the game on Sunday, Conner ran seven times for 25 yards and caught two passes for 26 yards. Last season he ran for 752 yards adding 15 rushing touchdowns and zero fumbles. He also was able to add three more touchdowns and 375 yards receiving. His value to the Cardinals’ offense has shown to be a key cog in the development of Kyler Murray.

Corner's backups are Darrel Williams and Eno Benjamin. Williams had eight carries for 59 yards averaging 7.4 yards per carry, and Benjamin added 31 yards averaging 3.9 yards per carrying. The Cardinals pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in a crazy NFL week. Kyler Murray will need the help of his running backs to pull off an upset versus the Los Angeles Rams.

Rams vs. Cardinals Week 3 Odds

The Cardinals are 3.5-point underdogs at home against the Rams and the over/under is 49.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Arizona (1-1) is +360 to win the NFC West, while the Rams are +125.
