Chris Godwin's ACL Recovery
The 26-year-old wideout practiced on Friday for the first time since his Week 15 right knee ACL tear. While, it's a significant step in Godwin's return to the player field, he was still sporting a bulky brace on his injured right knee.
Our panel of Pro Football Docs are not optimistic about his effectiveness early in the season. He carries a SIC score of 62.
Mike Evans left practice recently with a hamstring “tweak,” but has more than a month to recover for Week 1. Given his playstyle as a possession receiver, the injury should not affect him much in the early part of the season.
Buffalo Bills Injury Update
Bills starting free safety Jordan Poyer suffered a dislocated left elbow in practice on Tuesday, but will be back well before Week 1.
His safety partner Micah Hyde has missed practice time –including Friday – with a glute/hip injury, but should return in full soon.
Tre’Davious White remains on PUP as he works his way back from his Week 12 ACL tear. He has a SIC score of 41 for the season because the ACL is vital for decelerating and changing direction, extending the recovery timeline for cornerbacks.
Here’s him working out on Friday July 29.
Tim Patrick Out For Season With Torn ACL
The Broncos lost a wide receiver to an ACL tear for the third season in a row on Tuesday. Tim Patrick was injured on a leaping catch in practice. K.J. Hamler is next on the depth chart, but has his own lengthy injury history.
Los Angeles Rams Dealing With Multiple Injury Recoveries
Rams’ speed threat Van Jefferson underwent a minor knee surgery on Tuesday, but has a chance to return before Week 1, as the Pro Football Docs projected.
His quarterback, Matthew Stafford, is dealing with tendonitis-related elbow pain. He’s throwing in individual drills and 7-on-7s to limit his reps.
The Pro Football Docs are not concerned about Stafford’s availability or effectiveness related to the elbow injury.
Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey returned to practice on Friday for the first time since his late June left shoulder surgery.
As the Pro Football Docs detailed, he should be back by Week 1.
Irv Smith Jr.’s Thumb Injury
The Vikings’ young tight end underwent surgery, likely for a UCL injury in his thumb, but is expected to return by the start of the season.
The Vikings open their season with a home matchup against the Packers on Sept. 11.
