Tim Patrick Suffers Torn ACL, Out For Season

Tim Patrick, the Denver Broncos leading receiver in touchdown catches over the last two seasons, suffered a torn ACL in his right knee on a leaping catch in practice Tuesday.

The over the middle back shoulder throw caused him to land awkwardly on his right knee, then he took a few steps before going to the ground, according to reports from practice.

This is the third straight season the Broncos have lost a wide receiver to a torn ACL.

“ It’s always tough when a teammate goes down, but especially Tim Patrick,” safety Kareem Jackson told reporters after practice.

Patrick signed a three-year extension with the Broncos for $34 million with $18 million in guarantees.

The key to his return will be whether it was just an ACL tear or if it was a multi-ligament injury.

He had 53 catches, 734 yards, and five touchdowns last season. He has had over a 70 Pro Football Focus(PFF) grade for the past two seasons.

With the acquisition of Russell Wilson, he was looking to continue improving his statistical output.

Patrick was looking to compete for one of the starting wide receiver spots in a crowded room with players such as Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler. A lengthy injury could cause him to miss gaining reps with his new quarterback and to fall back on learning his new playbook.

Also, last year’s rookie wide receiver, KJ Hamler, has yet to take place in practice after recently coming off the physically unable to perform list.

For clarity, Tim Patrick completed the over-the-defender (Bassey) catch and started running a couple steps when his right leg gave way. Non-contact injury. #9sports
