How Long Will Concussions Sideline Chris Olave and Dorian Thompson-Robinson?

Injuries struck New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave and Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson on Sunday, both suffering concussions during gameplay.

Olave's departure occurred in the third quarter, precipitated by a forceful impact with the ground. He exited the field after an impressive performance, securing seven catches for 114 yards. Notably, Olave joins two other injured Saints wide receivers, further challenging the team's lineup.

By our data, there’s a 22% chance to clear concussion protocol without missing a game but no 2 concussions/recoveries are the same.

Thompson-Robinson underwent evaluation for a concussion in the locker room following a significant hit late in the third quarter. Unfortunately, he did not rejoin the game due to the diagnosis of a head injury. Thompson serves as the Browns' backup quarterback following Deshaun Watson's season-ending injury.

Recent data, as of Week 9, indicates that slightly over 20% of players managed to clear concussion protocol without missing a game, according to analysis conducted by the SIC score staff.

While some instances, such as that of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, who sustained a concussion in Week 7 against the Minnesota Vikings but returned for the team's subsequent game against the Cincinnati Bengals, demonstrate a quicker recovery, the process remains varied and individualized.

Both Olave and Thompson-Robinson's teams are scheduled to play this upcoming Sunday, allowing them approximately a week for concussion protocol adherence. However, the recovery trajectory will heavily depend on the severity of their respective head injuries.
